When I first listened to Marian Hill, I thought that was the lead singer's name- but no. Marian Hill is the name of the duo, but I'm pretty sure that I can't be the only person who mistook that. Samantha Gongol, vocalist, and Jeremy Lloyd, production artist. Steve Davit also features a lot with jazz instrumentals (which I think, he is pretty essential to their sound so I don't know why he isn't considered as part of the band (!!!??!?!)).
This past weekend my roommate Marie and I went to their concert and it exceeded my expectations. First, shoutout to my roomie for going with me because not many people can relate to the music I like or the people I would want to go see. Second, Marian Hill was amazing live. Their genre is really hard to distinguish, but I would describe it as a mix of electronic, jazz, soul, and maybe a little rock(?). The vocalist sang so effortlessly on point, the beats were sick, and the saxaphone was saxy. I would definitely watch them again if I could.
To top everything off, we were in the front row so close to them that we could touch their feet and then we also got to meet them after the show. (internally cries). Even though Marian Hill isn't too popular yet, they are ranked pretty high in my favorite artists/bands so I definitely fan-girled. I anticipate them to get more attention in the future since they currently are on tour, but a piece of me hopes they stay a little lowkey so they don't become mainstream and then the music industry takes over their amazing music. But if they do, that's okay too because they definitely deserve more notice.
Check them out! Their most popular/known song is One Time, but my favorites would probably be Whiskey and Play.
